Several years ago I went to a lecture and slideshow by a PhD zoologist and National Geographic Photographer. He was a very entertaining speaker and very excited about bugs. I don't recall his talk going into spiritual matters, but I suspect someone such as he - an explorer, full of wonder, actively seeking new experiences, in awe of everything - must have that non-rational numinous experiential gnostic thing going on. Or maybe I am projecting. It's good to pay attention to the small things right in front of you.
